Steve March Tormé

Steve March Tormé was born in N.Y.C. to his beautiful mom Candy and his father, the multi-talented Mel Tormé, who were divorced just after Steve turned two and a half years old. Candy soon married Steve's stepfather, actor Hal March, who hosted the $64,000 Question Show for NBC and subsequently starred in Neil Simon's “Come Blow Your Horn” on Broadway. Steve has 4 brothers and 3 sisters between the two families. Both dads also starred in a number of motion pictures.

With his natural talent and famous fathers as role models, Steve knew at the age of 12, that he wanted to be a singer/performer. He started singing professionally at the age of 13, starting the first of many “pop/rock” bands as a freshman in high school. The development of his songwriting talent would soon follow.

He recorded his first album “Lucky,” for United Artists Records, and promoted it with a cross-country, 30-city concert tour. Upon returning to California, he produced and sang on Liza Minnelli’s “Tropical Nights” LP for Columbia Records.

Shortly thereafter, Steve turned his attention to acting and hosting, 2 feature films and over 20 television shows, including 2 years as the featured vocalist on ABC-TV’s “The New $100,000.00 Name That Tune.” He went on to host “Video 22,” a local Los Angeles version of MTV, and two internationally syndicated movie review shows, “CinemAttractions” and “Box Office America.” On the recommendation of producer Quincy Jones he became the featured, male vocalist with the trio FULL SWING, which recorded on producer Richard Perry’s Planet Records label, touring Japan and Brazil in the process.

Finally settling into the romantic jazz/pop genre that he's most comfortable with, Steve's been performing throughout the United States, promoting his first two solo CDs, “Swingin' at the Blue Moon Bar & Grille” and “The Night I Fell For You,” which he recorded for his own label, Frozen Rope Records. With shows in N.Y.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia, West Palm Beach, St. Louis, Boise, Minneapolis, Portland, Milwaukee, Hawaii and Atlantic City, his fan base has been growing exponentially. Besides a lineup of “A” list studio musicians, both CDs feature a great selection of standards and a number of beautifully crafted original songs, many of which were penned with his musical director/pianist/arranger Steve Rawlins. Two of the highlights from “Swingin'” are the bittersweet original “The Girl Next Door,” which was included in the DVD version of Oliver Stone's epic “JFK,” and a terrific duet with his father Mel of the Nat King Cole classic, “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” which features Steve and Mel trading signature scat solos. They recorded the track live in just two takes. It’s the last recording Mel participated in before his untimely death in 1999. The reviews of both the CDs and Steve’s live shows have been nothing short of outstanding.

Steve's newest CD, "The Essence of Love" has just been finished in Los Angeles and will be released at the end of 2002. The 14 song collection of standards includes "Stardust," "Every Time We Say Goodbye" and "I Only Have Eyes For You".
